Vinaka vaka levu, Dr Luke Campbell!

We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr Luke Campbell for his generous donation of Mirena devices to support women in Fiji through our AFEG (Australia/NZ–Fiji Endoscopy Group) Women’s Health Initiative through OPHA.

In Australia, Mirena is subsidised, allowing women to access effective treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis at low or no cost. However, in Fiji and many Pacific nations, women are required to pay approximately $600 FJD per device — a cost that is simply out of reach for many.

This donation will directly improve access to care for women who are living with the physical, emotional, and social burden of untreated heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis. The impact will be life-changing — allowing women to return to work, care for their families, and live with dignity and comfort.

At the same time, this highlights a broader need. It is time to continue advocating and working with our health leaders and policymakers to ensure affordable access to essential women’s health treatments across the Pacific — so that geography and cost are not barriers to care.

Together, through partnership, advocacy, and compassion, we can move closer to health equity for Pacific women!
